About Me
The first thing to know about me is -- Photography is my ultimate happy place and what feeds my soul. Since my preteen years, I have held a love of and fascination with this particular art form. When I was 12, my dad introduced me to and taught me the fundamentals of photography on his Rolleiflex Twin Lens Reflex camera - and I was hooked from the moment I captured my first shot on it. After a few weeks of washing our family cars several times, mowing the lawn a few times, and several other odd jobs, I was able to purchase my first 'real' camera: a used Pentax ME 35mm SLR. This Pentax accompanied me everywhere as I remained in search of the elusive perfect shot. My eyes were officially open to the incredible world that is photography.
Fast forward a few years to 2011, when the photography bug bit me again - this time leaving marks! I purchased my first DSLR, and very quickly I resumed my favorite past time of phototripping in my spare time while still searching for that 'perfect' shot. At the urging of a friend, I entered some of my work in the amateur photography contest at the State Fair of Texas. I'd never entered any of my work in a contest before, but hesitantly agreed to give it a shot. I was more than ecstatic upon learning that one of my prints had placed high enough to win an honorable mention and be on display for the month long duration of the Fair (!!). That was all the encouragement I needed to continue striving to capture the kind of images that capture one's eye, or that make you look twice and smile. I believe that photography should move you on some level; if any of my work does just that, then I feel I've done something right.
I love all the many genres of photography, however my favorites are landscape, fine art and abstracts. I also love experimenting with macro, and am currently getting my feet wet with street and astrophotography. I'm blessed to be able to occasionally travel, which provides me the opportunity to experiment with some or all of my favorite genres. Regardless of what I'm shooting, I still hear my dad's voice in the back of my head telling me "Tammy, never stop learning....there's no limit to what you can capture if you put in the time and dedication". Truly, words to live by, and to continue seeking out that perfect shot.
Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to learn more about the 'WHY' of this website; it is my absolute pleasure and honor to share with you what moves me, what inspires me, and what grounds me. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about my work, just shoot me a message, and you'll hear back from me in less than 24 hours.
